FAQ
Answers, straight up.
Everything drivers ask us about DrayCDL, studying, the simulator, and billing — in plain language.
About DrayCDL
Is DrayCDL the official CDL test? +
No. DrayCDL is an independent study platform. Official knowledge exams are administered only by your state licensing agency — we prepare you for that exam, we never conduct it.
Where do the questions come from? +
Every question is original DrayCDL educational content, written and reviewed against the concepts your state manual covers. We never copy official test banks or reproduce manual text — each question explains its answer and cites the manual section to study.
Who makes DrayCDL? +
An independent team of driver-education writers and engineers. We are not a government agency, a DMV vendor, or a testing provider — just a study tool built for drivers.
Is DrayCDL affiliated with FMCSA or my state's DMV? +
No. DrayCDL is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by FMCSA, AAMVA, any DMV, MVC, DPS, or any state licensing agency.
Studying
Which sections should I start with? +
Start with General Knowledge (manual §1–3) — it's the core exam. Then move to Air Brakes (§5) and Combination Vehicles (§6), which most Class A drivers also need. Endorsements come last, and only the ones you plan to test for.
How long does it take to prepare? +
It depends on where you start. Most drivers do well with short daily sessions over a few weeks — the readiness score and category breakdowns tell you when you're consistently hitting your study goal, so you're not guessing.
Can I study in Spanish? +
Yes. The interface and the question bank are bilingual from day one, with per-question translations stored side by side. Switch languages any time — even mid-question — without losing progress.
What is audio mode? +
Built-in read-aloud for every question and answer set. Turn it on and review hands-free during downtime at the yard, at the dock, or on a break.
How does weak-area tracking work? +
Every category keeps a mastery score based on your recent answers. After each test, misses are grouped by category and turned into a recommended practice set, so your next session targets exactly what needs work.
The Simulator
How does the exam simulator work? +
50 mixed questions in 60 minutes with flag-for-review, a question navigator, and auto-submit when time runs out. No feedback until you submit — just like the real room. Afterwards you get a full category breakdown and a recommended practice set.
What score should I aim for? +
Our practice threshold is a study goal, not an official requirement. Each state publishes its own current passing standard — always verify it with your licensing agency before test day.
Can I retake the simulation? +
Free Practice includes one full simulation. Driver Pro includes unlimited simulations, each with a fresh mix of questions.
States & scheduling
Does DrayCDL cover my state? +
Yes — all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. Select your jurisdiction first, and questions, manual references, and requirement notes stay separated per state. Nothing is silently reused across borders.
Why do questions differ between states? +
Manuals, terminology, fees, and requirements vary by state. DrayCDL keeps state content separated so what you study matches the manual your examiner uses.
How do I schedule the official exam? +
Directly with your state licensing agency — DrayCDL prepares you, it doesn't test you. Confirm requirements, fees, and scheduling with your official agency, then book when your readiness score says you're consistently there.
Billing
Can I cancel anytime? +
Yes. Cancel from your account in a couple of clicks — no calls, no forms. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
Do you offer refunds? +
If Driver Pro isn't for you, write to support@draycdl.com within 7 days of purchase and we'll sort out a refund.
How does the yearly discount work? +
Driver Pro is $14/month, or $99/year — that works out to about $8.25 a month, roughly 41% less than paying monthly.
Do you have pricing for schools and fleets? +
Yes — custom per-seat pricing with volume discounts and invoice billing, plus instructor dashboards, groups, and readiness reports. See the Schools & Carriers page.
